Welcome to North East Lake County Indivisible
We are glad you found us.
Many folks are calling this “unprecedented times” and it can feel scary or overwhelming. But we want you to know: You are not alone. We are stronger together.
As the story goes, our first meeting in January 2025 had 2 members in attendance. Later that month, 5 people attended our next meeting. Then in February 2025, following Trump’s inauguration… we broke fire code with 120 people and standing room only!
Since then, we have accomplished a lot! We built a leadership board, organized into five teams, hosted five nationally-endorsed rallies, spoke out against ICE in Lake County, protested for local issues, tabled hundreds of hours at community businesses and events, canvassed Know Your Rights and GOTV messaging, and developed an entirely new Voter Support Team for Lake County election protection…just to name a few of our initiatives!
This exciting beginning captures some of our most important values:
- We are people-powered. We are entirely volunteer-led, with many of our leaders here as first-time organizers. If we can do it, so can you!
- We are proudly nonpartisan. We know that authoritarianism is a concern to all parties, and we welcome everyone to this work.
- We value social justice. We know that some communities are more targeted by this administration. We speak up and take action wherever possible to support those friends and neighbors.
- We defend democracy and push back on authoritarianism. Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation, Trump, and the oligarchy are attacking our country’s democratic foundation and stripping our constitutional rights. We are what stand in their way.
- We take action locally and nationally. Lake County is inseparable from Illinois or from the United States at large. We need to stand up for ourselves here and for others everywhere.
We hope you will make NE Lake County Indivisible your organizing “home.” Everyone has a place in this important work, and we are here to connect and empower you to take meaningful action.
