ICE Out of Our Schools peace walk to show solidarity with Lake County students and staff. We walk to support those who are afraid, to reassure children, to connect with each other, and to heal the worry and trauma that many are carrying.
ICE overreach and aggressive practices brought fear and chaos to the community deeply impacting our families and schools. Students are staying home, and parents are too afraid to participate in school activities. Educators are expected to teach students who are anxious, distracted, or absent, all while ignoring their own stress as ICE closes in.
Our students, families, and school staff deserve safety, care, and solidarity, not fear. This Peace Walk is an opportunity for our community to come together, stand with those who are most affected, and affirm that our schools and neighborhoods must remain places of peace and belonging. This Peace Walk was organized by a number of grassroots Lake County groups intent upon protecting our neighbors, including but not limited to NELC – Indivisible, Indivisible Western Lake County, and PSL.
