Last Thursday, in Waukegan, we stood alongside 500 of our friends and neighbors in honor of John Lewis in his legacy of civic engagement. Across Lake County, we had more than 1,000 citizens represented between Highland Park, Buffalo Grove, and our Waukegan location. Reports suggest thousands more stood up and spoke out at similar events scheduled on the Nationwide John Lewis Day of Action. Across the nation we chanted on Thursday night,
“Trump, escucha! Estamos en la lucha!” which means, “Trump, listen! We are in this fight!”

Our speakers inspired us to “Speak up!” and “Be good allies!”
Dulce Ortiz from Mano a Mano and ICIRR shared a personal story humanizing the experience of immigrant families and centering this administration’s lies about what this budget can and cannot afford to provide its citizens.
As a fierce community advocate of education and family engagement, Brendan Ewing reminded us that Black and Brown communities need us to be strong allies as the administration takes aim at human rights, social services, and basic needs.

We closed the evening with Katie, our own NE Lake County IL Indivisible leader, calling us to action with an invitation to engage in mutual aid, continue those calls to Congress, volunteer in Lake County, register voters, and connect with local activist groups like NE Lake County IL Indivisible. We left inspired and empowered!
But the work does not end here! We invite you to STAY ENGAGED! Make this administration hear us! “Trump, escucha! Estamos en la lucha!”
Come join us as we continue the fight! This Thursday, July 24, our next General Meeting is scheduled at 7pm in Gurnee. Details can be found here: https://mobilize.us/s/SPxnvb
